It depends on what you want to do. In any case, install Nitro, Neo and
IC/VC.

If you want to send and receive address book entries, calendar entries
or notes between the Newton and the phone, this is what you have to do:

1. Activate "Infrared" on the phone
2. For sending, open the item to be sent (in Names, Dates, Notes etc)
3. Tap on the Action button
4. Tap on "OBEX"
5. Select "IrOBEX"
6. Chose "Send Now" on the connection slip on the Newton

Receiving works like this:

1. Open the "InOut" application on the Newton
2. Tap on the "Receive" button
3. Tap on "IrOBEX"
4. Send the item from the phone

Using the phone as a modem is a bit more complicated and requires that
you get the following settings from your operator: Access number
(likely *99# for GRPS), user name, password, DNS server. Then, follow
the steps as described on the Nitro page:

1. Install the patched NIE Modem support module from the Nitro page
2. Open Internet Setup and create a new "Generic" setup
3. Specify "Serial" for the "Connect using" setting
4. Set the connection type to "PPP", the configuration method to
"Server"
5. Set the user name, password and DNS server as given to you by your
operator
6. Add a login script with the following steps: "Send ATDT*99#", "Send
newline", "Wait for CONNECT". The number in the first step might be
something else, e.g. "ADTD012345".
7. Use this new setup with any internet program on the Newton when
prompted with the connection slip.

There are a number of things that can go wrong here which are usually
the result of a misconfiguration. Nitro only supplies the very low
level of emulating a serial link between the Newton and the phone, the
rest depends very much on your operator, calling plan, phone model etc.
