it sounds like you can start the apps, and establish a connection -- and the
problem has to do with _using_ the connection -- not specific to Newt's Cape
or NetHopper.

my guess is that's NIE-related -- I'd suggest removing the DNS cache entries
(in Storage) in case something's corrupt there, then restart.
