What in the world was Microsoft thinking?!? Between this and the whole
database based filing system, they're setting themselves up for a rather
nasty lawsuit from Apple.
WinFS (aka Windows Future Storage) has no files, only entries in a database.
It sounds awfully similar to the Newton's filing system to me. Apparently,
it is going to be based on MS's own SQL server. You will have to pay money
to copy and/or move files. If you want more information, go here:
