It should say 'waiting' for a few seconds and then go to 'charging'.
As Michael suggested, always unplug the charger from the eMate, not the
charger from the wall. I've found having the charger connected to the eMate
but not to the wall seems to confuse the battery somewhat.
You're not getting the 'toast' (bad battery but possibly salvageable) or
'deep toast' (battery is really dead) messages so that's good.
Plug it in overnight (make sure the eMate is turned off _ turn it off
using the keyboard power key NOT just by closing the cover) and see what
happens.
