I tried every conceivable setting from every Newton source. It's not a
reliable method to connect a modern Wintel machine to the Newton.
In every instance I had, there was a morphing routine I had to adapt to in
order to get a connection to install .pkg's. I never, no matter how many
slowdown's I ran, was able to do a back up, even with a hard reset Message
Pad with nothing on it but the User Info.
Eckhart, if you're listening (so to speak), if we ever meet - you're getting
a big kiss from me, or at least a big hearty handshake!
Serial is for breakfast, not the Newton-Wintel. - I hope I'm not being too
outspoken!

Paul Curtis

Buried somewhere in the list archives are specific instructions on how to
set your serial port params in Windows, so that you don't need all these
slowdown.exe's running.
I've not tested the instructions yet but I will shortly, I'm going to help a
grad student set up their 1Ghz WinXP laptop for use with a MP.
It should work, and wouldbe alot more elegant (and what the heck else is a
serial port for, these days, besides for a Newton?)
