Windows NT predated Windows 95.
Windows 95 was nothing more than Windows 3.11 for Workgroups with new
pictures.
Windows 3.XX was essentially a DOS-extender.

Yeah: NeXT, BSD, UNIX,...
But don't get me wrong, as O/Ss go, OS X ain't half bad.
