Don't know why it didn't work, but I did find out what I'd done wrong -
I'd cut and pasted the Lucent entry and of course, there is a tag that
marks the card as being supported by Horishi's driver that I left in
place. It still says the package won't work if I install it, but on the
2100 after deleting the Internet Setup entries, installing the modified
More WiFi Cards, and restarting, the Agere card was recognised and
worked. I installed ChatBuddy over Wireless/AppleTalk and IRCd. Even
the range is good!

UK Newton owners may, therefore, be interested in this auction where I
obtained the card.

I don't use WEP or anything at home because, frankly, we're in a rural
area and if anyone does find the signal that barely makes it through
our Scottish 19th Century stone walls, good luck to 'em - so I can't
tell if the WEP is any good. But it does connect wirelessly and
AppleTalk works :D
