1x0 and earlier Newtons use a different architecture than later-model (2x00,
eMate) Newtons.
The main change is a switch in the main chipset from 'Runt' (the original) to
'Voyager' (the update).
Older models have little DRAM and Flash too.
This is a *very* high-level view of the reasons...
