As I already explained this is the outcome of a project from the german
Independent Newton Support, searching a long time for a optimum replacement
of the Newton BL.
From what I can tell (I do have one Newt with replaced foil) the new BL
appears to have almost the same properties as the old one, but is expected
to last much longer.
The brightness could have been increased, but this is possible only on the
cost of a higher power consumption. And for a battery powered device you
definitely want to avoid that. So the project decided to go for a optimum
compromise in terms of brightness and power consumption.

and a second remark: on the fotograph with the "blue screen" provided on the
webpage referenced below you can easily see that a digital camera can be
cheated by the color spectrum emitted from the BL. For the human eye the new
BL is as green as the original one.
