That might be true in the PC world.
I've got 6 year old computer that are running the latest versions of OS
X and all the new software for them.
512Mb RAM and away we got.
Video conferencing and all kinds of other stuff.

But it's not obsolete.
Linux runs really well on some machines that are slightly "past their
prime"
All my Mac's run OS X - except one that is nearly 10 years old which
we've left on OS 9.

The only reason they're obsolete is because new version of Windows
either run so slowly on it.
I have yet to see any release of Windows run faster on the same
hardware that an older release ran on.
Linux and Mac OS do this quite frequently (10.3 is much faster than
10.2 on the same hardware)
