Hi Guys,

I have a couple of geek moments to share. I've used my Newt to
search for a movie/actor/director/producer/etc. with the IMDB newtonbook
during a discussion with my friends while watching the trailers before
the feature presentation at the movies. I've pulled out Nick's SoLong
ruler on screen to measure stuff. It displays a 4 -3/8 inch or 111 mm
ruler and comes in handy in a lot more situations than you could think
of. I've also looked through 2 years of notes to find something on the
fly. I've accompanied my electronic DJ friends at parties, who were
crossfading between two iPods, with my Newt sounding out scratches using
ScratchPad or drum beats with NR404!

I used the Calls feature to let the Newt dial out and make a phone
call. I only did this once because it was way too geeky for me!

One of these days, I'll probably set up DeepGreen to solve a
particular chess problem and whenever I get all my media
(cd/dvd/games/etc.) organized, I'll set up an inventory database so that
I can look up what I have anytime, anywhere.

I've got a backup Newt which isn't all that out-of-ordinary with
this crowd but it blows other people's minds when I say to them that I
can't wait to have a third Newton so that I can hook it up online and
use it as a webserver and have internet access to my backup files
wherever I go.

As for carrying my Newt, when I first got it, I converted a Tri-Fold
Organizer Book & Bible Cover from Inspirio to carry both my Newt and
keyboard at once. It also carried my cables, memory cards, and dongles.
I added a nylon strap and an adjustable buckle to it and I was proud to
be running around with my "manbag"! I recommend getting the XL size. I
had the large size that just barely contained the keyboard.
Over a year ago, I won a heavy duty leather case holster from an
auction by JKsales. It comes with a belt hook-up simillar to the swivel
snaps used for cell phone holsters but much bigger. When I used to use
the hook-up the Newt would hang off my belt, swinging off my hip. I
could actually deploy it in the same manner as in drawing out a handgun.
The Newt swinging off of my hip eventually annoyed me though. I just
cobbled up two nylon webbing straps with side realease buckles and strap
the Newton in the leather case to my belt horizontally. It kind of looks
like I'm carrying some sort of military electronic device on me. One of
these days, I'll take a picture of my crazy holster setup and post it.

Have fun (all you geeks out there!),
Jonathan
