Hi- sorry for the slow response.
I also study Japanese. I haven't found a *great* input method, though I
haven't tried Enfour's stuff (it's a little expensive to buy sight unseen.
the OS2.1 software might be called UniFEP, I don't remember if that's just
the 1.3 version..). There's a package called Izumi that provides a decent
input method for kana, and a passable one for kanji.
I also wrote a Japanese dictionary based on the EDICT dictionary data:
