Portrait is vertical screen, landscape is horizontal. If you're using
Avi's Backdrop the rotate button is a set of two circling arrows along
the button-bar in the backdrop program. If you're not, the rotate
button is found in the Extras drawer. Note you'll need to recalibrate
your screen after you rotate it.

Heap memory is available memory for running Newton programs, like RAM
on your desktop computer. Every package installed on the Newton
whether running or not will consume some heap memory - you can keep
packages from consuming heap memory by "freezing them" with a freezing
program such as the one provided by SBM Utilities.

Short for "super-capacitor" - the MP2000 and 2100 (don't know about the
e-Mate) have this instead of a backup battery. It holds the charge for
a short time so that if the batteries are removed you still do not lose
your data.

And of course you can check the FAQ for these and other answers at:

  http://www.chuma.org/newton/faq

I suggest you read it, it's fascinating - and also seems like it would
answer most of the questions you ask the list.

Enjoy!
