I'm thinking I'll sell my 2100 and I'm wondering what a reasonable price
with all the doo-dads is.
MP 2100 (not an upgraded 2000)
Has all the clips, doors, blank card, except no screen cover.
Screen is in good shape, used but not trashed
Has a nice leather case with reinforced flip-up screen cover.
Hayes Optima 33.6 Fax/modem card
AC adapter
Rechargable battery holds a good charge
(I haven't timed it, but it's many hours)
Newton Connection Kit serial cable
I installed the internal serial adapter port that the group recommended and
it works well.
Farallon AirDock external serial-to-IrDA/IrTalk port.
Victor Rehorst's 3 CDs of software
I bought it about a year ago because I saw Adam Tow and friends playing with
theirs at SF MacWorld 2003. I'd always been curious about them but never had
the need for one when they were new and they were a bit too pricey for just
a toy.
So, I found one, have had fun playing with it, am beyond impressed with how
advanced many of its features were, and I think its handwriting recognition
really got a bum rap. (I'm sure it had been vastly improved over the
first-gen MPs, but the Doonesbury joke stuck, didn't it. And, of course, it
took practice to train it to one's own prefs.) I'm really impressed at how
well it can recognize my scrawl now.
But, I bought a new FP iMac and no longer have a serial port. And last
weekend I bought a cute little Palm Zire 71, which means that I no longer
have any incentive to try to get the Newton talking to my new iMac. (as I
enter data on the Palm, I find myself cursing Grafitti2 which can't even
recognize my 't' or 'e' most of the time when the Newton could recognize
them any way I made them. :-(
So I had my fun with it and I'm ready to let someone else discover this cool
device.
The leader of our local MUG moaned that he wanted one when I brought my new
MP to a meeting for show-and-tell. So I will offer it to him first.
If he was only moaning figuratively, not literally, then I'll see if anyone
on this group wants to give it a good home.
And failing that, I'll put it on eBay. Do you think that $250 is a
reasonable price to shoot for?
Thanks!
