Andy,
Try these steps.......
1. Remove any cards in the slots.
2. Remove the battery tray or rechargeable battery.
3. Remove the AC adaptor if it is connected.
4. Remove the back cover.
5. Using a pair of metal tweezers, short out the 2 terminals of the "Super
Capacitor" for a couple seconds. The Super Capacitor looks like a very large
aspirin near the edge of the Main Board by the card slot openings.
6. Reinstall the back cover.
7. Important step : Take a drink of your beer.
8. Plug in the proper Newton "9W" AC adapter.
9. Don’t touch the power switch or the reset button.
10. Wait a few seconds.
11. Exclaim "YEE HAA !" when it boots up.
12. Calibrate the touchscreen when prompted.
13. While it is "ON", re-install the battery tray with known good batteries
or the rechargeable.
14. Finish the beer.
This should work.
