Nothing survived; I have no idea where the pieces went to. I went to extract
it and the end was gone, just the brass threading was there.

Sometimes, the two halves of that piece come apart. If you find them you
can super-glue them back together on the end of the stylus. Just be
careful, because cyanoacrylate can get really messy quickly.
