Can't say for sure without seeing the board, but SMD boards are
really difficult to solder.

If the capacitor specs are know, it should be possible to, at least,
cut off its large body and use the already soldered pins to
solder/glue a new one, properly insulated.

Probably the new capacitor would be smaller too. ;)
