I have decided to scale back my Newton life. As much as I like the technology,
I'm just not a PDA person. I would like to sell this as a package and before I
offer it on ebay, I thought I would give this list first crack at it.
MessagePad 2100 (not upgraded 2000) with:
EtherLink 3c589c ethernet card w/dongle
Apple 4MB Memory Card (8 MB total in MP)
Serial dongle
Apple power adapter
Original metal stylus
Leather carrying case
AAA battery case
Siemens Pocket Reader Scanner with:
Serial out cable (plugs directly into a PC serial port)
Mac serial cable adapter: DB9 to Mini-DIN8
Newton serial adapter: homebuilt adapter cable that allows PR
to plug directly into Newton
Pocket Reader documentation and software CD
Pocket Reader carrying case
The MP2100 is in very good condition. The screen has a couple very minor
scratches that do not interfere in any way with the operation of the device.
Backlight works well but I'm not a good judge of how it's brightness compares
with a new Newton--it is, after all, 6 years old. The case has all flaps,
doors, doohickeys, and lids. The ethernet card works and connects to my
network for printing and browsing the internet. I will leave all software
installed so hopefully the new owner can easily connect to their network.
The Pocket Reader is in pristine condition and works well. The homemade cable
adapter allows downloads directly to the MP2100 and the other adapters allow
interfacing with PCs (I tested under Win2K) and Mac w/serial port. I have not
tried this combination.MP2100 has PRreader software installed.
Added Bonus: Free Newton compatable printer included. This is an Apple Color
StyleWriter 2400 with serial cable and power cord plus new ink cartridges and
a couple of replacement print cartridges.
All this stuff, costs me about $300 but my asking price is $200 plus actual
shipping and insurance. If you live near Seattle come and pick it up! I prefer
PayPal but can't accept a credit card payment.
First come first served. I can email you pictures of the package if you are
interested.
