I checked and AppleTalk is on for Built-in Ethernet and is also on in
Directory Access.

Internet sharing is on (sharing from Built-in Ethernet to computers
using Airport). The menubar icon has the arrow pointing up within the
Airport symbol (series of arcs).

[If I want to connect wirelessly, don't I need to have AppleTalk active
on Airport (not Ethernet)?]

Escale is open; all three interfaces activated and all are black on the
Escale window.

In Dock, connect via AppleTalk. Connect to other computer.

I still cannot connect (Looking for Mac OS computers...)

hmm. . .
