I've 'unmade' 3 eMates in the last 6 weeks or so to lube/washer the hinges--
your don't _NEED_ to desolder the speaker and backlight wires. After
removing the battery, the 5 board mounting screws and disconnecting the 2
keyboard ribbons and the display ribbon, if you remove the black tape strip
from the backlight wires and slip the backlight wires and the speaker wires
from their slots on the logic board, you can carefully flip the board as
though the wires were a hinge. It takes a bit of careful jiggling, but I've
had good success with this procedure. The eject button for the PC slot gets
in the way-- you'll need to push it in and flex the case bit to clear the
edge of the board. There are some spring contacts under the edge of the
board nearest the speaker as well. Jiggle carefully and everything will come
out neatly. You can unscrew the speaker baffle from the upper case half
(after the board is flipped) if you need more freedom.

When reassembling, be certain the plastic surrounding the PC slot seats in
the proper groove in the upper case half or the eject button will be stiff.
