True, of course windows is the single biggest factor in this problem.

It's interesting that the "PC" no longer means MS Windows at this
point. as increasingly, people and companies are switching to Linux
as a better system to run on there PC's( ie Intel compatible hardware).

Microsoft has some big problems when it comes to convincing people who
actually know something about computers that there systems are
"secure". There was a study done a couple of weeks ago that found that
purchasing a new computer and hooking it up to an internet connection,
the average time before the system is infected is 20 minutes. This is
not enough time to download and install the needed patches over the
interenet (dial up).

If you want to buy a computer that "just works" and don't need a
particular program that is PC only, and don't expect to play all the
newest games, then the Mac is a great way to go.

Of course there is no serial hardware on newer macs, so this is
another hurdle to get over when it comes to connecting Newton.

If you just want cheap interchangeable hardware to play with and don't
mind having to futz with it regularly to keep it updated and virus
protected, and playing the newest games is important to you, then a
windows based PC is probably the way to go.

Good Luck,
Marty
