They did. A "G3 Color Classic" or "Power Color Classic" is a CC that's
been hardware modded to accept a motherboard that will at least take a
G3/G4 Processor upgrade card (assuiming a native G3/G4-bearing mobo
wasn't used). I've heard of people putting the guts of iMacs and Cubes
into CC cases, but the more common upgrades that are G3/G4 compatible
are the PowerMac (Performa, really) 6400 and 6500 motherboards.
