[NTLK] Connection problems

I'm having two types of connection problems and hope someone can shed a bit
of light.

Problem 1: I have one of the 3Com card modems, think I have the correct
stuff installed for it to be recognized, but am apparently missing
something. The Newt tells me that I've installed a com card when I plug it
in, but when I tell it to dial (I'm just trying to use a simple terminal
program for now) there is no action at all. Is there a set of idiot-proof
instructions about anywhere that I might use? Please note the idiot-proof
requirement.

Problem 2: I've installed NewtSync on my OS 10.2.8 machine, an upgraded G3
with connection via serial port. When I instruct NewtSync to do its thing,
and trigger the Newt-side application so the machines talk to one another,
activity occurs as it all were going well ... but, the programs stops, a
moment after opening iCal, and shows me an error message indicating that I
need to be using iCal version 1.5.1 or later. However, the version I have -
and which NewSync opens - is 1.5.2 ... which I interpret to be "later." Any
hints about what's going on here would be appreciated.

TIA
