Hi JON:
AS A relative newbee to the list I would like to offer condolence. Your many
posts have helped to make this one of the best lists I have ever been on. The
only other list that came close was the MAC AOL LIST IN the early 90's.

May you find a NEWTON or perhapps someone with a spare will send it to you.

Well fellow Newtonites-

Today, the curtain draws over an era in my life. Last night, when I
went to bed, I could not find my Newton (I use it as my alarm clock),
and today, I was forced to go to church without it. During the day,
while mulling over in my mind what I could have done with it, I
realized what I had done. While trying to open my car yesterday
afternoon, trying to juggle my Newton and my baby, I placed my Newton
on the top of the car. You can guess the rest. I forgot about my
Newton, and drove off with it on the roof. :-( _If_ it survived the
fall, there is no guarantee that somebody will turn it on today, and
see my name and phone number on the screen, and there is no guarantee
that, should this happen, that said person would call me, so I think
it's safe to say that my Newton is history. I could survive the loss
except that I had just entered the information for the home we just
signed a rental contract on, and there were various measurements and
stuff related to the home, and I had a couple of business cards inside
the case--also that I hadn't entered yet into my computer. Other than
that, the rest of my important data was backed up, and accessible on my
desktop, so it is not the end of the world.

However, due to many issues beyond my control (including this impending
move to a new house) I don't see myself getting a new Newton in the
foreseeable future. I've considered this potentiality for a long time,
and long ago decided I wouldn't be buying a replacement, and all day
I've been thinking about it, and I am decided. No more Newton. However,
of course, the longer I go thinking about it, the sadder it makes me.

I _could_ take advantage of this loss, and when we go to the States
this winter, i could get one of those modern Sony Clie devices. My
co-worker has one, and I'm very impressed with some of its features,
and love the Polish/English dictionary that you can get for it--it's
tempting to get a cheap Palm just for this dictionary! However, the
more I play with his Palm device, the less satisfied I am with _how_ it
works. It is just too anti-intuitive to me---after something like nine
or ten years with Newtons. I could also take one of my children's
MessagePad 120s, but that feels too much like stealing. :-) Besides,
it's hard to go backwards. ;-) Not that I wouldn't do it, especially as
in recent months, I've used the extra "power" features of my Newton
even less. However, when we do go back this January, I think I will be
needing something more powerful than a 120 or 130.... Therefore, my
dilemma.... 2100, eMate, or Palm or worse----- Pocket PC??? I don't
know right now. I only know that for now, I'm Newtonless, and I have no
idea how long I will last, or if I will ever go back. I might even get
a phone! Who knows. I only know that I don't plan on purchasing
anything in the near, or near distant future.

About four years ago, my first Newton was stolen. At the time, I think
I said the same thing, and only two weeks later, i had bought a 130.
However, I doubt that will happen this time.

That said, I have absolutely no intentions of leaving this list. It's
as much a part of my life now as my relatives! ;-) I shall be sticking
around and participating as much as possible. It will become more
difficult to contribute, as I won't have my Newton at hand to test some
things, but I will try.

I guess I'm writing this more to unload than for any other reason. I
thank you for your patience and sympathy... However, there is no need
to write replies. I doubt the bulk of listers would be interested. :-D
In fact, just unloading has helped me feel a bit better.
