I have a crossover cable, that I've used with a Farallon Ether Wave.
Cumbersome, but useable for some things.

I used that INVALUABLE site to help find and install drivers, and I
created a Generic setup using just those steps.
However, the farthest I get is that occasionally the card will see my
computer when I choose "Connect to: other computer", but when I
connect, it tries for a while but then says that it cannot find the
computer on the network.
