Yes, I'm replying to myself *again*...

On my eMate I installed PT100 and plugged this card in once again. When I
connected PT100 to the serial port with the right parameters, I could see the
NMEA sentences coming through. So, despite the error when inserting, this
card still works!

I hacked TeletypeGPS to work with the 'upper' slot on my 2100 using
instructions writen by Daniel Padilla here:

http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=newtontalk&m=108670162910069&w=2

and installed it along with the Ontario data file (that's where I live). Put
the GPS card back into my Newton and used Avi's BD to see the current usage.
Typical current draw without backlight on a 2100 is 40-50 mA. With the card
in, current draw is around 330 mA, meaning the card draws about 280mA - still
within the specs for power draw on the 2100, so that's good. Teletype's page
claims a max draw of 160mA. This was while I was inside and so it would have
been actively scanning for satellites (and not finding any).

So I took a walk outside and fired up TeleType. Since this receiver has been
'cold' for a while I don't think I was outside long enough to get a fix. BUT
on the Teletype monitor screen I could see the NMEA sentences coming through,
so yay! It should work :)

The last thing that sucks about this card is that it puts the Grip of Death on
the Newton - meaning that when you eject it, the Newton will say that it is
still required and stop everything until you re-insert it. However when you
re-insert it the system freezes, requiring a reset.

Will the last person to leave the platform please turn off the backlight?
