Hello Allen,

Thank you for taking the time to respond with your thoughts. You're the first and only person to help me research this so far! Judging by the limited response, it seems this topic is of less importance to the Community than I would first have assumed.

I was tickled to get the serial connection working, but I'm still curious as to its possible limitations in terms of linear distance. I imagine there is a distance limit, just as there is a linear distance limit with an ethernet LAN (minus the help of such widgets as repeaters, switches, etc). I wonder just how far one could extend a Newton-to-Newton serial connection?

Thank you very much for your input regarding the Serial Card in Slot (PCMCIA) option and Modem option.
It's unfortunate that I don't have the capability for connecting TWO ethernet-enabled Newtons (I only own one Newton ethernet card). Perhaps that is an experiment to be set aside for the next Newton gathering.

I would also very much like to try experimenting with the 'dial up' method using 'VideoPhone' and two Newtons with modem cards. Contact me off-list, if you'd like to help. I'd be disappointed if the modem connection option could not be extended to a server. I had envisioned a server-fed online gamer sort of experience down the road. Maybe not 'Doom', but something...

BTW, I just found the scant 'Read Me' file for the 'VideoPhone' software. I am in the process of writing a more-detailed bit of documentation as a new read me file eBook. I'll try to gather as much data as I can before publishing a new 'Read Me' file for this app. Thanks again, Allen!

Warmest regards,

Matt the K.
