I started to read this John Skinner post with eagerness, but... Oh! How I
was duped! Geez!

This post is so strikingly similar to most EBAY auctions today -- the
"title/Subject line" claims to sell you a particular product, but then after
you buy it, you receive something quite different.

John Skinner, unless my eyes deceive me, this thread has been about how to
"upgrade a BRONZE card" to Silver or Gold. Your post is how to update a
Silver card, not a Bronze! Now, the last time I saw the Olympic Games, the
winner of the Silver medal was not one and the same as the winner of the
Bronze! There is a difference.

Upgrading Silver and Gold cards is well documented. And while posting on
the subject is perfectly ok, you should rename the subject line accordingly.

There is a dearth of information on how to upgrade a BRONZE, which is why so
many people begin to drool when someone promises news of how to do it. I
personally think it cannot be done. Now if you can show us how to upgrade a
BRONZE card (not Silver, not Gold, not Platinum, not Transparent Aluminum),
then you will be doing your readers a tremendous service. But again, I
don't believe it can be done because I have never seen the precise steps
written on how to do it.

If I sound a bit upset, it's because I am. When I bought my Newton a year
ago, the EBAY seller led me to believe the standard untruth that the BRONZE
Wavelan card he included with it could be upgraded to Silver or Gold. But
after I received the merchandise, no instructions on the upgrade were
forthcoming. Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase, but I believe
there are a lot of EBAY sellers out there who are either seriously
misinformed or seriously interested in deceiving their buyers about the
upgradeability of BRONZE Wavelan cards.

Best,

James Wages
