Thanks for that - nice to know that someone else has the same
problem! So now there's two of us seeking an answer!

The router I use has both ethernet ports - which I am using for the
Newton (and my iMac) - I keep the wireless bit for Airtunes! I don't
have the save it for another router option I"m afraid,

The modem through PPP works just fine and is consistent.
