I don't know exactly, but it *might* be a container of NSOF (Newton Streamed
Object Format) objects. NSOF is documented in Chapter 4 of Newton Formats:

This is also the format of those .nwt attachments that you can e-mail.
The Mac and Windows versions of NCU/NBU create differently formatted backup
files though, so maybe they don't use NSOF.
