Re: [NTLK] Native installer for NCU and OS X Update

I'll throw my two cents into the conversation.

I've been wanting to learn Obj-C/Cocoa programming and was thinking
of projects that I could work with. This happened at about the same
time as when I got my Newton and started messing with NewtSync. I
saw that it was quite broken and thought "Hey, this would be a good
project." Then the talk started up on here about a replacement. It
was about this time that I learned about Escale. So, that's another
candidate for a project.

I've been looking into feasibility and which program (NewtSync or
Escale) would be better to work with. The biggest problem with
NewtSync is that it requires a program to run on the Newton to sync;
doesn't use the Dock program already on every Newton. OSX does have
NewTen to send programs over. The NewtSync Newton program is
available in source, but I have no clue about programming for the
Newton.

Escale has it's share of problems too. It's not complete and it's a
mess. That and it's currently in C++. I understand the want to go
with a cross platform language, but it looks like OSX has the only
program written with the DCL. I'd like to rewrite it in Objective C,
if possible.

I have ideas about milestones to work on, features I'd like to see,
and ideas on things to implement. For myself, this is something I'd
be doing in my free time to learn Obj-C. I won't and can't promise
anything, but it's something I'm certainly interested in and the
community would certainly benefit from it.
