Morgan,

do you think it would be difficult to make a plug-in for NewtSync?

I love to use NewtSync, expecially via bluetooth.

I also dream a tool which would let convert the selected playlist on
iTunes
to a MadMax compatible format just running a nSync script from the
menu bar.

The way that PSPware (which I use for my PSP) and PockeMac PSP work
is that they read your iTunes playlists and let you select which
playlists you want synchronized to your PSP. This works especially
well with recent versions of iTunes because you can create "Smart
Playlists" which only contain music which you designate: MP3's and/or
of a specific bit-rate, for example. This makes it very easy to
automate the process by narrowing down what will actually work on
something like the Newton before going any further.

If there were a program that worked through iSync and allowed
synchronization to the Newton, it could provide that same
functionality quite easily. In fact, Apple openly publishes the
API's for third party developers to communicate with iTunes, iPhoto,
iMovie, etc., (and I'm hoping the same goes for Front Row) to do
things of this nature. Heck, the iTunes library is just an XML file
anyway, so a breeze to parse and pull relevant data out of. Something
like nSync (http://www.newtsync.com/) could do it if one were to
write a plug-in.

Honestly, I've considered working on an iSync plug-in, including a
device driver, if needed, but don't have enough free time in my
schedule provide adequate results in a reasonable amount of time.
Still bumming that NetNewsWire got sold, as well, that means no
more .Mac sync. :(
