You should do some homework and read the list archives concerning
this issue. Look for Paul Guyot's posts regarding this. You above
summary is completely oversimplified and wrong.

  It's much more complicated then you suggest. You are overlooking
unique aspects of the Newtons soup structure as well as the
extensibility of it's data form. For example some people have add ons
to the newton address book that incorporate data, or store it in a
separate soup, both of which can be problems.

These two thing combined with several other basic issues make syncing
with an existing (ie OSX) address book a much bigger problem then it
seems.

Not to mention that sometimes both address books are updated...

I agree with Sonya that Norman is an excellent choice, if he has any
interest in being the banker in this operation.
