The site:

has the programs needed for ethernet connectivity. If you can connect
the Newt to the internet(do you have a modem you can use?) you can
download them directly to the Newt.
The site:
http://tools.unna.org/wikiwikinewt/
is a wiki that has lots of helpful hints about getting around
bootstrapping.
There is even a Card lending program, where you can borrow a preloaded
card with the correct drivers on it to get yourself up and running.
Another solution is to get a USB to serial adapter to get yourself
started.
if you're on a Mac there is a program called Packager that fixes the
creator code of the files to work for the Newt.
