[NTLK] eMate-PC XP connection issues

Hi all:
Already skimmed through the Newton FAQs and message archives and so far, the
issues I've encountered have not been addressed. Currently using a PC XP to
connect through USB with an eMate. While the physical connection issues -
cables , adapters and all - have been addressed, how come I still can't
connect? Already downloaded NCU for PC and I'm still left wondering whether
the settings in NCU - which indicates a COM1 serial port connection - is
important. (I guess it is.) So what should I do?

Meanwhile, immediately after I plugged in the USB serial port adapter which
I use, the PC recognized it as such. Is this important?

The physical connection between my office PC and my eMate includes (from
the eMate's end) a Mac serial to a PC male serial connection attached to a
female adapter ( a gender changer which I bought for an equivalent of $4.00)
which in turn is also attached to a PC serial to USB adapter.

Thanks for any and all forms of help. Really desperate to transfer text
files to my office PC.

Robert
