Here's another option to your question.

Take a look here (Link Below), it show and describes my solution for
use of SD card in my Newton.
I think this option though a little bulky offers the broadest
compatibility so that you can use a CF and SD Cards; (though some of
the other media is not supported such as SmartMedia I believe that's
the correct name for it).

Of course you still need Paul's ATA Driver...
