Dear Dean,
There are two families of Macs. The older G3, G4, or G5 machines have
been replaced by Intel machines. To talk to your Newton, you would
need a serial-enabled Mac, or a USB->serial adaptor, or a Mac with a
wireless "Airport" card.

For something 2-4 years old, I would try to find a G4 machine. In the
desktop realm, you could score a Mac mini, iMac, or PowerMac. For a
laptop, the G4 family had the Powerbook and the iBook. All are still
viable machines, but a little old.
