update: i've tried manual setup as well as dhcp with various dns
servers. i'm getting varied feedback depending on which method i use
(dhcp v. manual) via the dialog box on the newt and the activity
lights on the wireless card. the one thing that remains the same is
a lack of activity according to airport utility so i'm thinking that
it's either an issue with the new base station (or since last week i
was using a linksys g router) an issue with cablevision. it may be a
while before i can check using a different access point, but in the
mean time any other suggestions? thanks again, i know that most
people on the list dealt with getting online quite a while back and
newbie questions can be a real PITA.

thanks, everyone

danny
