If the Newton is set to try and constantly receive IR beams all the time it
will suck the battery dry very quickly. Open in/out box, tap i -> Beam Prefs
and make sure "Automatically receive beams" is unchecked - or whatever option
sounds similar, I'm going off of memory here.
