The pen nerds I know tend to swear by noodler's ink. I gave up on
fountain pens about 5 years ago; too much of a PITA. These days, I'm
all about roller balls—and also the Uni-Ball signo 207....lord have
mercy that's some fine ink.

I would recommend something with a little heft to it, which means a
brass barrel, which means 2nd tier of entry level. If you're going
Waterman, consider the Expert. I have one that's worked well for a
long, long time.
