You are quite right ! My mistake, it is an S-Video port. I should
have looked properly in the first place.
Now I will go ahead and buy a Keyspan. But before I do, does the
Newton USB Dongle that I sometimes see advertised, do the same thing ?
I have a 17 " Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11. Will let you know my
progress.

You have a G4 with a serial port? What model is it? Is the port
labeled? What version of the OS are you using. I believe that OS X
dumped support for serial at 10.4 or thereabouts... But I'm curious
about this seeming serial port. It's not an S-Video port?
