When buying a switch for this project, find one that is a
break-before-make
switch, and you may eliminate the potential for most of the crashes.
When switching the crystals, if both are powered at the same time,
the timing and the frequency of the wave(s) generated is erratic. By
using a break-before-make switch, you guarantee that the disabled
crystal has completed its last cycle. During the switch between
crystals, there's a logical low (ideally, although it may be floating),
and then the enabled crystal starts up with its generated wave form.
I've bcc:d Stephanie so she'll hopefully add this to her page.
