No dumb question. I explaind badly. You install Basilisk or any other
favorite MacOS emulator. I am not sure how the current serial support
is, but that would be important because you need to connect to the
Newton at some point. Then you install MacOS 8 or whatever you have
handy. Up to 7.5, IIRC, MacOS is now free. Then install NTK, the
Newton Toolkit. It contains everything you need to develop in
NewtonScript. If you then want to add C and assembler, you must also
install MPW and a few additional libraries.

Everything Newton is available from UNNA, the rest is easy to Google.

There are a few NewtonScript tutorials out there, but most stop after
creating an application with a button. The Newton Programming and
cross references books by apple are also available on Unna, as well as
the NTK manual. I personally learn best from looking at someone elses
code, but Newton Script OpenSource seems rare - maybe beacuse the
original NTK was $9000.

If I had the time for it, DyneTK would be ready by now. It is an NTK
replacement running on Windows XP, Linux, and OS X. But unfortunatly I
never made it beyon two relatively small demo apps. NTK is quite a bit
more complex than it seems at a first glance.

Anyway, happy codeing. I am sure that a few much more experienced
developers will chime in soon.
