I recall a couple of years ago at Christmas, I ordered a 25 pound
turkey for the event. When we picked it up from the butcher's I
thought it was a little small. When I got it home, I weighed it at
about 23 pounds. I returned it to the butcher and embarassed him quite
a bit when he tried to explain it was really 25 pounds, New York
Dressed. Evidently that meant it was 25 pounds before cleaning and
defeathering, etc. I got my full 25 pound turkey. He didn't want to
discuss the problem in front of all of his customers coming to pick up
their turkeys.

Personally, I prefer my dressing not to be included in the measurements.
