I've been working on getting a Ruby-based connectivity framework up and running, and it starts to look promising. The code is at the moment just in SVN on SourceForge (http://sourceforge.net/svn/?
group_id=88078), and it doesn't do much beyond connecting, but with wxRuby you'll definitely have a UI app on Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

Syncing will remain as usual an issue, but I'm planning to provide at least the framework for getting data in and out.
