Yup, the Air and modbook are not even close.

But I wouldn't worry about the fact that Apple sold off Newton tech. They have enough brains, experience and research and development to give us something far beyond the Newton. As Apple likes to say, they like to start over on new products. So I think leaving the Newton behind is a good thing, where they can start and build on something fresh.

But of course they still have their lessons learned and best practices from the Newton. In fact, though, looking back at patents, Apple has been investigating true to form tablet computers since 1995 and probably earlier.
