I vaguely recall reading somewhere it is to do with a counter that keeps the
date. Once it goes over 2010 the register[?] needs an additional digit but
there isn't one.

I'm also sure that I have read Newtontalk items that attest to the bug and that
it does cause a crash. Only a brainwipe allowed the machine to come back to
operational life?
