I am not trying to defame Knowledge Navigator, and I wish him all the best. I like to see people succeed, I have no problem with that.

But, this "closed" list is a small community of retro tech users, and we are free to discuss these things with each other. I don't want to see people new to the Newton spending too much money on something they may not know anything about, or something they may end up not using. It happened to my girlfriend 2 years ago when we first discovered the Newton, and I was ignorant too, so we sort of got 'taken' on a unit (paid way, way too much - don't ask). I won't mention the business name, but I don't want this to happened to anyone else.

Flat out, the best place to buy Newton stuff is here, Ebay, Craigslist and sometimes Applefritter.

Spending $100 on a battery, or $400-$700 on a "mint" MessagePad is exhorbitant. Knowledge Navigator is not the only one with prices like that, so I won't just pick on him. But Knowledge Navigator is very, very vague with his offerings, which is a clear sign that he is dishonest. For instance, toward the end of last year, he had a special on MessagePads (2000/2100s), but stated he could no guarantee unit condition. So essentially you pay for something and you have no idea what condition it is in. Right, anyone buying from someone that states this is asking for trouble.

Also, we already alerted him to the fact that some of the speed boosts he advertises on his site are exaggerated. He uses these inflated numbers as a marketing ploy to push sales, but since there is contrary, well documented evidence saying otherwise, it is false advertising and he surely knows it.

So that is my input on the matter, and I also want to mention that this is the best list I have ever participated in. Jon Glass, Woody Smith, Sonny, Ron Parker, et al. have helped me so much. After about 1.5 years of grabbling with the Newton, I feel like I have finally conquered it. It takes a while, and a lot of patience, but now my 2100, with flush wifi card, 2 GB ATA memory, Dashboard and MailV with NetHopper is singing along.
