Maybe we should petition apple to release the ROM source because of the seriousness of this problem to Newton users?
Its not like the Newton is a big commerical product anymore.

Well, there is still a year to fix it. The problem are the 30-bit
integers used, but NewtonOS supports 32-bit integers as well. So maybe
using the more complex integer will give us another 3 x 17 = 51 years
before we run out of seconds.
Sculley also OK'd a system that allows a limited number of ROM patches
using software. There is a chance that we will find and fix the issue
on the lowest level without the need for hexades and patched call
vectors... .
If they would release the source code of the ROM, now *that* would be
helpful :-P
