That logic reader looks too good to be true...

The iRex is a bit too pricey from what I can see: too slow.

Specially with competition like Sony, although...

I finally had a chance to check out the Sony Reader (PRS 505 and 700). Was very impressed, but with many caveats. The 700, as others have noted in reviews, is great in that it has wifi, and touch capabilities with a built in screen light. However, the screen is significantly less clear than the 505 and has too much glare. The difference is really night and day.

For $299, $100 cheaper than the Sony Reader 700 model, the 505 would be my choice... sure, I would miss the wifi and the stylus with touch screen, but the screen difference is just too great. What I see the 700 as is a poor attempt at a Newton. After playing with it in store for 15 minutes, I thought to myself that I would not give up my Newton for it. Sure, the Sony is much sleeker and thinner than the Newton, with about the same screen size, but the screen is not really any more clear than the Newton, and the touch screen is very limited, with a very poor screen light, and I mean very poor.

Not even a backlight, but simply a few tiny lights on the side of the screen to light it up, and it is not uniform at all. The backlight on the Newton is far better, and scrolling and turning pages is much, much faster on the Newton. In short, the Newton is more responsive and battery life is about the same or more with the Newton.

Now, when compared to the 505, it is tempting to use... it would not replace the Newton, but would serve a limited purpose of simply reading eBooks... but, who wants to use something without the ability to mark up pages, or read in the dark where a separate screen light add on is required? No wifi either, which the Newton does. And still so slow... it would drive me nuts waiting for that screen wash everytime a page is turned... So I have decided for now to stay with the Newton.

If an ereader like the Sony 505 kept its screen quality, and included a real backlight with wifi and multi-touch screen, with a significant speed up, I would buy it.

The logic reader... maybe that is the answer? And to Apple, come one, dang it, give us a slab computer already, all of this stuff currently available just does not cut the mustard... so Newton I stay.
